Artist’s Statement

I learned years ago that one of the commonalities masters of innovation and creativity share is a sense of curiosity. They have a “beginners mind.” Their essence reveals itself with this “seeking” state of being. Children naturally have this. We want to encourage them, while providing structure and learning tools, to keep that creative spark alive as they grow and develop. I was fortunate to have teachers along the way who facilitated my creativity and curiosity from a very early age.

As we age that creative spark often seems to go away. We all have had the experience of feeling like there is not a creative bone in out bodies. We resign ourselves to living in our comfort zone and staying with what’s familiar, even if it makes us frustrated and unhappy. But that can change literally in a moment. When we allow ourselves to be in the moment, when we allow ourselves to take risks, whether they be completely open or with guidance, we start to feel free. We have, as a teacher once said, “infinite possibilities.” Our smile comes back and we feel more confident. The problems begin to solve themselves. Beauty reveals itself.
